Overall and specific learning objectives:
The International Policing Missions: Security and Justice Course provides a practical introduction to providing support to and interacting with the security and justice sectors within an international policing mission context. It explores the benefits and challenges of a coherent approach and considers key lessons. While focussing on countries affected by conflict, it covers a range of contexts and types of international policing activity, reflecting the increasing number of dilemmas associated with delivering this work.
The course places heavy emphasis on the practical implementation of security and justice themes. Against a backdrop of presentations, participants will discuss and address key dilemmas from contemporary security and justice work in conflict affected countries. In a final participatory case-study exercise, groups develop an outline programme of police security and justice support – with focus on delivery.
